Ramy Saadeldin Geotechnical Engineering Research Study


This Geotechnical Engineering Research Study is prepared to cover the most recent design approaches of highway embankments over soft soils. We feel that there is a need for a more detailed study for advanced construction methods on chemically improved soils to avoid excessive failures of engineering facilities. Mass stabilization of soft clay by mixing with cement is a relatively new ground improvement method for soft clay soil layers. Soft clay generally have low strength. The reduction in strength and stiffness of soft clays causes bearing capacity failure and excessive settlement. These materials may also change chemically and biologically with time. Frequently, these clayey soils cause cracking and breaking up of pavements, railways, highway embankments, roadways. In Geotechnical Engineering, it is challenging to improve the Engineering characteristics of soil so that the stability and serviceability requirements can be met. This research Study focuses on evaluating the performance of road embankment constructed on cement stabilized soft clay.

In the US there is a lack of women in engineering undergraduate studies and subsequently the engineering field. Without diversity in the workforce, the experiences of engineers are limited and therefore reduce their ability to engineer for a global society. This study uses a narrative approach that includes interviews and journaling to explore what influences women engineering students to persist in completing an engineering degree. It also considers how their experiences and perceptions relate to their self-efficacy, which in turn affects retention. Feminist standpoint theory and Bandura's (1986, 1997) self-efficacy theory inform this research. These women's stories of their experiences pursing an engineering degree can provide a link to key information regarding retention.

With the rise of the sharing economy and the increasing numbers of cross-contextual users, this research aims at the lack of trust transference possibilities across the Peer-to-Peer applications and has the goal to find out whether and how trust can be transferred between the platforms, so that new users do not have to create their reputation from scratch every time they join a new platform. First, this research provides an in-depth literature review of trust transfer theories. Secondly, a conceptual research model for the role of the imported trust in the context of the sharing economy is outlined and analysed by proposing and evaluating a questionnaire using structural equation modeling. Throughout the study, a three-dimensional scale of trust, i.e. ability, benevolence and integrity, is validated in the context of the sharing economy. The experimental study shows that both the overall and subdimensional trust in the provider is directly affected by the overall trust in the platform, the perceived reputation as well as the perceived social presence. One of the purpose of this study was to determine the degree to which faculty of engineering in Thailand were satisfied with and motivated and expected to engage in teaching, research, scholarship, and service. The other was to determine the relationship between the motivation, expectation, and satisfaction variables; and the faculty marital status, gender, years of experience, rank, and educational background. The participants were all full-time faculty members in faculties of engineering in eight selected private universities in Thailand.
